Our Blessing in June 2010

Our youngest Daughter Corrie had woke up one morning before going to school with a stiff neck that had pulled her chin to the left almost resting @ her shoulder.  Let me paint a picture of her Corrie is 12, petite 76 pounds and about 4' 9". She had lost 9 pounds in 2 weeks and was very frail. We went to the doctors that said she had a neck spams and slept on it wrong it should go away in about a week. After a week we went back to the Doctors to be referred to another. The new doctor said she had Torticollis. To be on the safe side they want an MRI she had also developed a large mas right behind her left ear. After the MRI we went home and I had just found out that my Husband had been laid-off from his job. Within 30 minutes of the conversation our phones rings and it is her Doctor saying they have found a mass and we need to rush straight to the Hospital. When we arrive at Loma Linda Childrens Hospital. From we were admitted to the Oncolgy (cancer) floor. They never told us that they suspected it was Lymphoma and she had a low immune system with tons of other things happening.  We were on they phone asking for friends and family to Pray! Pray for healing and guidance we had no idea what to ask or what to except.

From the moment we had arrived she has been on the strongest antibiotics. So she was having lots of labs and blood draws. Her tests where showing infection too, Corrie's white blood cells where twice the average. On the following day they had decided that they need to see more and wanted to do a CT scan of her body needing to see more depth of the mass. My Aunt had sent a friend over to pray with us. Judy was in the same hospital with her grandson who was also have a serious surgery.  So to our surprise she prayed and I cried!  As a mother I know my job is to stay strong but my heart was breaking as I truly feared what may be to come for my daughter. I felt helpless for the both of us, wanting to take her pain and fears away and for me a mother scared that I may be losing my child.I have always struggled with my faith .. is it enough? Am I following God and walking in faith and does he hear my prayers. Knowing God hears our cry's I continued to talk to him and pray for help.

By night of June 11th.. Corrie went for surgery to biopsy and draining the mass. After surgery the doctor informed us of a glimpse of HOPE. The doctor believed that it was no long a mass but they drained 150cc of puss from her neck. All we need to wait for testing and the cultures to grow to see what the infection was. After waiting 2 days we found out she had two problems. Corrie had EBV  and  MRSA/Staph. After a week in the hospital she was released to come home.  Her primary care doctor in the hospital had let me know how serious and blessed I was she made it. Most case like these are fatal. The MRSA is deadly and uncommon to have it in that section of her body, along with the amount of in infection in her body was rare!

Our prayers went heard and answered in a big way. I was humbled in so many ways. Saddened by what I had seen while staying on the oncolgy floor. Kids living their precious lives with cancer and never leaving the hospital for months on end. Parents struggling to take of their sick child, home, work and family! Nurses with their shining smiles, uplifting and encouraging to us. My body was drained emotionally, mentally and physically. Strength... that God will give you when you are in need. Today we are working on doing volunteer things for the Childrens Hospital to help cheer up the kids and bring them a little bit of joy along the way.
